I had reservations about going on a guided tour - that I would be forced to go and do things that were bland. The truth is that through our knowledgeable, smart and kind guides we got to see a depth and breadth of Peru that would have been impossible on our own in that amount of time.

-T. Dennis, California
Peru: Machu Picchu & the Sacred Valley, 2010

It’s very relaxing to be on a CW tour since I didn’t have to worry about any details. CW guides know the country and the language and have selected the best places to visit or walk.

My guide, Prem Lama Gurung was phenomenal! He shared his country's culture, bio-diversity, and it's people. My experience surpassed my life long dream to visit Nepal. The trekking was awesome, the rafting fun and the safari beautiful. Prem is a living treasure and all who want to experience Nepal should take a walk with Prem.

We have just returned from our first Country Walkers adventure along the Amalfi Coast and Capri, what a fabulous trip! We were both so impressed by all aspects of our trip. The hotels were lovely, food and wine were tremendous, our fellow walkers were all great people, but we think what really made it for us was our two guides Alessandra and Luigi. These two people are a huge asset to your business; we saw and heard things that would never have been possible to experience without the benefit of these two individuals. Both of them had such a passionate and extensive knowledge of the history and culture of this beautiful area and explained it so well that it made this trip something that we will always remember.

-R. & D. Ramey, Ontario, Canada.
Italy: Amalfi Coast 2011

Sunay and Yunus were exceptional. They were knowledgeable - (Yunus an archaeologist - how great!) and wonderful sense of humor - we enjoyed them! They are special people and we have wonderful memories because of them.

-C. Devereaux, Texas

An excellent trip due to great leaders and compatible travelers.

-J. Perkins, Maine

I think Arjen and Graeme might be my favorite guides ever. They made us feel like friends, not clients. Loved going to Arjen's concert, meeting Graeme's adorable family-they are absolutely the best!

-S. Philips, Illinois
Holland: Tulips, Windmills & Waterways 2010

As a single traveler, I can count on Country Walkers to take good care of my needs. Caring, informative guides are to be counted on.

-R. McIver, New York

This was the best vacation I have ever had. The trails were beautiful and scenic, the guide was friendly and incredibly informative, and the group was a lot of fun. -M. Cusack, Illinois

You aren't the "odd one out" as a single person on a Country Walkers tour. You are welcomed and you will have a great experience - one that you could not replicate on your own. Your guides know the area and the people - the special visits they arrange are the highlights of the trip.

-S. Green. Georgia

I knew we would have a great time in Peru, but I had no idea what an incredible experience Country Walkers would present us with. Our guide taught us about every aspect of Peruvian Culture and showed us so much of the beautiful country in just 1 week - his knowledge and enthusiasm is unmatched. An all around amazing experience!

-S. Patent, Florida.

Montana & Wyoming: Yellowstone 2009

Our guide, Scot Carsley, was truly amazing.  He helped create an experience in Yellowstone that appealed to every member of our group, from age 2 to 72!!!  He was incredibly smart, knowledgeable, personable, and funny.  You could tell he loved showing us the wonders of Yellowstone – he really put his heart into it.

-J. Gora, New Jersey
Montana & Wyoming: Yellowstone 2009

Jamen and Claire were both marvelous - they understood from the start exactly what kind of trip I wanted. But most importantly is the fact that you both understood exactly what I wanted from the start. You were so helpful, well organized, and full of wonderful ideas. You planned and set up an extraordinary trip for our family - without you both it would not have been possible! Dennis and I are most appreciative and grateful and thank you ever so much ~ It was really the trip of a lifetime!

-F. & D. Bark California
Montana & Wyoming: Yellowstone, 2011

Carolyn was an exceptional guide. She motivated the children, at their level, to thoroughly enjoy the simple things nature offers. I simplified planning a multigenerational family vacation. It provided the grandparents an opportunity to see their grandchildren discover nature and experience many activities for the first time.

The entire time spent in Austria was nothing less than PERFECT! What an honor it was for Stephen and me to be the Country Walkers' inaugural guests for the self-guided cycling trips. Without a doubt, it was one of our most exhilarating, challenging (at times), and exquisitely beautiful journeys ever!

-C. & S. Schwegman, Indiana
Austria: The Lakes Region2011

We loved it - the combination of exercise, adventure, freedom (self-guided), the fun of map reading, meeting strangers, viewing nature - perfect! ALSO: Hope you develop more self-guided trips. The cost, the flexibility of dates and mostly the ability to pace your own day - fabulous!

-T. & J. Porta, Maine
England: The Cotswold, 2010

I’ve been to the Cotswolds before, but this trip was special—new villages, many of them pristine, friendly locals, delightful and unexpected wildlife and centuries-old treasures were to surprise us along our thoughtfully chosen walks. To have all the logistics arranged for us and to just step out into the truly awesome English countryside was divine.

-L. Landphair, New York
England: The Cotswold 2010

I loved the tour, the equipment was in good condition, the inns and stops were great.

T. Paige, Florida
England: The Wye Valley 2011

All the hotels were wonderful, we had some excellent meals (especially the dinners at the hotels in Ravello and Recomonne), the directions and maps were accurate and easy to follow and all the pickups and transfers were efficient and on time. As our first experience in Italy, this trip was certainly a fabulous introduction. We look forward to other possible self-guided hiking trips in our future travel plans.

-N. & P. Murray, Toronto, Canada
Italy: The Amalfi Coast 2010

Wonderful! We enjoyed every aspect of the tour. The varied landscapes of the walks - pastoral plains, dramatic rocky coasts, charming medieval villages, as well as the hotels - Castell d'Emporda was certainly a highlight, one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed, and the food. The hoteliers at all 3 hotels could not have been more warm, welcoming, or accommodating.

-K. & D. Burkhart, Pennsylvania
Spain: Classic Catalonia 2011

The accommodations and food were great. The numerous trail options (great signage) allowed us to vary hikes to suit our moods. This was our first self guided hike booked through an outfitter and it exceeded our expectations.

-J. & J. Coletta, Illinois
Switzerland: Davos 2011

Wonderful! Incredible scenery, great accommodations and food, fantastic hiking! We were thrilled with the experience.

-L. & S. Lansdale, Maryland
Switzerland: The Valais & Goms Valley 2011

Walking directly through vegetable patches and between houses - very intimate. I am tough when it comes to written instructions, these were terrific! There were a number of places we could have made a wrong turn, but the directions never failed us. The meals got better with each stop. The Hotel Quinta da Bela Vista was in a class by itself: service, diversity of menus and courses, and presentation. This was truly a memorable experience.

-J. Miller, Texas
Costa Rica: Northern Cloudforest & Volcanoes 2011

Walking through the countryside of a foreign land puts you smack dab into a country's culture at a pace where you can small the dirt, hear people's laughter, taste their history and feel their reality. The walks are tough but the luxury that follows creates a perfect blend of experiences.

-C. Brown, Illinois

Hernan Arauz is a great guide. His knowledge, background, and sense of humor make him superb at what he does.

Thanks Country Walkers for a wonderful trip to Peru and Machu Picchu. My husband Ted, and I had a memorable adventure. Your guides, Juan Carlo and Pavel were delightful and knowledgeable; we learned so very much about Peru, its history, its people, culture and traditions coupled with great hiking. Juan Carlos and Pavel are excellent guides and are representatives of the Country Walker business model and we will certainly recommend this trip to friends and family. The wonderful surprises along the way were truly memorable and unforgettable. Please pass along our thanks to our guides and also let them know we made a donation on their behalf to the Patacancha Farming Projects for Trout, Guinea Pigs, etc. Thanks for permitting us to visit this wonderful country and learn about the world of the Incas.

-R. Veglianta & T. Fidger, Colorado

This is the best Country Walkers trip we have taken. The hikes were challenging. The scenery is out of this world. The guides were awesome. The group was a lot of fun.

-W. Yeh, California
France, Italy & Switzerland: The Mont Blanc Circuit 2011

The Mont Blanc circuit was quite challenging for me as a new hiker, but well worth the effort. The scenery was spectacular. Our guides were very knowledgeable, helpful, and supportive―it was great to let them do all the worrying/planning so I could simply enjoy.

-D. Heidrich, Ohio
France, Italy & Switzerland: The Mont Blanc Circuit 2011

-J. Harris, New Jersey
France, Italy & Switzerland: The Mont Blanc 2011

The tour was unalloyed pleasure. The guides, Mariska and Pierre, were knowledgeable, entertaining and attentive. The routes we traversed were beautiful. The accommodations were lovely. Every moment of the trip had been planned with care. In fact, the experience was so perfect, I'm almost hesitant to try another trip! Could it possibly be as good?

-A. Morin, Utah
France: Provence 2011

I love the fact that CW tours are "off the beaten track" to areas of a country that I might not find on my own and aren’t over run with other tourists. I thought this was an especially well planned tour with plenty of options regarding hikes (easier & harder walks) and food (lots of choices). Seeing George and Ruth's restored tower house was fascinating. Also the wildflowers were spectacular.

-S. Blough, Florida
Greece: Southern Coast 2011

Our Greek tour was marvelous from the moment it began till the moment it ended! - each one introducing us to new and wonderful (sometimes magical) sights. We had wonderful weather, which helped, and the walks were all a delight. Antonis regaled us with history and mythology, and Ruth ordered meals with mouthwatering success.

-M. Suby Massachusetts
Greece: Delphi, Meteora & the Aegean Coast

Of course it really helped that the weather was great every day. But I had truly under anticipated the richness of the terrain, the history of the area, and the cultural diversity of Holland. So it was a pleasant surprise.”

-J. Allecta, California
Holland: Tulips, Windmills & Waterways 2009

The walks we took in Ireland were unique and would never be found by an average tourist. The guided experience led us to unknown spots, and were lovingly described through their knowledge of the history, nature and poetry of the region. This was something we could not have experienced on our own.

-A. Rohan, New York
Ireland: Connemara & Galway Bay 2011

CW always has topnotch destinations and vacations. The guides are well-versed in the areas they guide in, which leads to wonderfully informative trips. The Northern Ireland trip is spectacular and provides some GREAT scenery. It was a wonderful trip with wonderful guides.

-B. Shamblin, Illinois
Northern Ireland: The Causeway Coast & the Mournes 2011

There was not one thing I found lacking in my tour, from detailed preparation information, incredibly knowledgeable guides who were also kind and multi-talented, to the variety in terrain and scenic beauty. Also the hotel accommodations and food were wonderful. I would have to give my Ireland experience an A++.

-L. Keisel, Massachusetts
Scotland: Southwest Scotland, 2009

Absolutely splendid experience exceeding all expectations. Knowledgeable guides who conveyed their passion for Ireland and the Irish and the spirit of this place; varied terrain of enjoyable walks along beaches, pastures, bogs, mountains; delightful hotels, pubs, and restaurants, which all combined to give one a remarkable sense of Southwest Ireland. The poetry and artistic commentary and sense SW Irish and Gaelic lore-many of the stories have stayed with me. I have fallen in love with Ireland and the Irish people. The boat ride on the Lakes of Killarney was spectacular and we had perfect weather. Sea views were amazing.

-A. Sheffield, Washington D.C.
Ireland: Dingle Bay & Killarney 2011

Fun, fun, fun! We had the most wonderful group of people, guests and guides. The guides transported us to a different time and place and immersed us in the history and nature of Ireland. The countryside and coastal views were incredible. Country Walkers is our favorite way to travel. All we need to do is show up, and the rest is a magical experience each time we take one of your tours.

-C. & J. Viola, Arizona
Ireland: Dingle Bay & Killarney 2011

The Cinque Terre adventure exceeded our expectations in every way―the quality of the guides, the itinerary, choice of lodgings, local foods, mix of cultural, religious, folkloric, and historical knowledge was fascinating along with exposure to flora and fauna and geologic features of the region.

-M. Lavender, Illinois
Italy: Cinque Terre 2011

This was a fabulous adventure: the Dolomites are an awesome, almost other-worldly landscape, and, day after day, I found myself looking back in amazement: “”Hey! We just went up that, and down THAT!” To be able to get so high and close―sight-lines down into distant valleys, over to other mountains, and sometimes across to little villages―and all on foot: tremendous! The walks were challenging enough that I finished every day with a huge sense of achievement; easy enough, that I finished them with good cheer and enthusiasm for the next day.

-M. Jelinek, Virginia
Italy: The Dolomites 2011

Food and wine were spectacular, guides were very informative, and we made some great new friends. As usual, accommodations were perfect. Especially enjoyed the two wine tastings, lunch with the cheese maker, hunting for truffles, visiting the bee keeper and having lunch at the mill!

CW goes the “extra mile” planning excursions that combine fabulous and diverse walks with intimate immersion in the local culture. This is largely accomplished by the careful choice and training of local guides. They are the “magic”.

Bhutan is a magical place. Our guides introduced us to this country and made us feel welcome. Kinley, in particular, helped make every day a delight. I would recommend this trip to everyone I know.

Of course riding on a camel in the Sahara and spending the night under desert stars was a dream come true. But the highlight for me was being invited into a Berber home and enjoying the warmth and generosity of that family as they served us home made bread with olive oil and delicious tea. I still get goose bumps when I think about it!

The Nepal trip, from which we returned a week ago, was the finest travel experience we've had. Everything planned by Country Walkers was wonderful - the walks, the lodges, the scenery, the food, the big and little details - it was all outstanding. Best of all, however.....Prem Gurung. I really don't know how to put our experience with Prem into words. Perhaps our feelings can best be summarized by saying that our travel companions (Bill and Sue Chandler) and we came to the same conclusion, even using the same words. One morning, when discussing Prem, we learned that we had both separately called him a "national treasure". His warmth was contagious, his knowledge seemed without limits - and watching him interact with villagers was a privilege. Without going overboard, he could qualify as one of the finest men I've met. We could not be happier with our two Country Walkers experiences (Spain two years ago, and now this). I could go on and on - but maybe it's best to keep this short, and let these few words suffice. You are all to be congratulated.

Thanks Country Walkers for a wonderful trip to Peru and Machu Picchu. My husband Ted, and I had a memorable adventure. Your guides, Juan Carlos and Pavel were delightful and knowledgeable; we learned so very much about Peru, its history, its people, culture and traditions coupled with great hiking.

It is like spending a week with a very good friend who is thrilled to share her country, her culture, her food, her experience, her thoughts and her ideas. And every minute was filled with opportunities.

I'm so impressed by Country Walkers - your overall approach to travel, your appealing destinations, and your commitment  leaving a place better than you found it.  That type of business model is so inspiring.  Keep up the great work!
