Alaska: Kenai Peninsula

Few places rival Alaska for sheer natural spectacle. On this journey through the grandeur of the Kenai Peninsula, you’ll enter a vast kingdom of verdant forests, crystal waters, and snow-clad peaks. From Turnagain Arm, a fjord-like jewel favored by beluga whales, you’ll follow the historic Iditarod Trail to its highest point amidst a realm of waterfalls and wildflowers. Trek through coastal rainforest into the Kenai Mountains for vista after astounding vista of postcard-perfect wilderness, and share a mountaintop picnic with a 360-degree view of the summits towering over Resurrection Bay.

Watch salmon leap Russian River Falls as bald eagles soar overhead, then raft the Kenai River or go fishing for dinner. In photogenic Homer, you’ll sail to unvisited rocky beaches, dazzling ice fields, and coastal treasures like Katchemak Bay State Park and the Gull Island seabird colony, a wild Alaska most tourists never see. In between, relish meals of wild salmon, Kodiak scallops, king crab, halibut, and caribou sausage, and relax in rooms at a luxurious mountain hotel, a wilderness lodge, and Alaska’s top seaside resort.
